Though it is what they want to do Slimming should not be so hard yet there are literally thousands if not millions that could do with shedding a few pounds of unwanted fat. This is personal to me as I have gained and lost many pounds over the years with the help of diets, tonics, programs and even the dreaded exercises.

What does a dieter need to slim?

The most important thing I found I needed to lose weight was a mental picture of what I wanted to look like. This I constantly kept in my mind all the time. It was never exact just really a thought I would think like; " I am trim or I am light or even I look great and thin". Then I had to choose a diet. The truth is there are many many diets that would help anyone slim out there. We all know just by being slimmer it has a great anti aging effect on us. You just need to investigate them to see if they fit into your life and plans and will actually work for you specifically.

7 Reasons Why You Should Front Squat

I can nearly guarantee you're not front squatting enough or to some extent. For some reason, you don't see several gym goers (mostly bodybuilders) utilizing this time-tested training.

Crossfit has gone miles and miles towards bringing it back, but if you're not doing crossfit - it's most likely not even on your radar.

This is a shame because if you want to get full body strength build awesome quads sculpt rock-hard abs and save your "tweaked" lower back then you're going to enjoy the front squat.

Here's 2 reasons why you should front squat for a better body:

1. Get Improved Quads - The front squat is an EXCELLENT movement to get bigger, stronger quads-probably the finest training there is. As you're position is more straight, it points out the quads more.

5. Lower Back Approved - Most people have lower back problems and back squats aggravate these conditions. But because your upper body is mostly upright (instead of leaning forward like in a back squat) there's less force on your lower back. I started front squatting after I hurt my lower back.

People are continually searching for diets that work. Many go from one diet program to the next thinking this next one will be the one that solves my weight issues. Finding a diet that one can follow and stick with tends to be the real issue at hand versus actually finding a diet that works.

The 46.8 billion dollar diet industry (as of 2005) depends not on people staying healthy and keeping off weight, but rather on people taking an endless yo-yo ride between health and fat. Because the money comes from repeat business, the focus is naturally on methods and products that work for a short period but result in return business.

Here's a diet that will result in weight loss. Limit the amount of calories that you consume each day to 1000 calories, limit liquids to water and exercise for at least 30 minutes five times a week.

But there are two difficulties. First, cravings will likely end the diet. Sooner or later, particularly after intense work outs, those 1000 calories won't leave you satisfied. It will start with a potato chip or piece of candy, then it's whole bag of snacks and a piece of pie, and then the diet is kaput. Second, the diet has a finite life prescribed. You will eventually go back to eating the same stuff before the diet and in the same old way. Next season, or, or next vacation, or next big event or simply the next time you try putting on those jeans it will once again be time to go on a diet.

The best diet is a permanent diet. More and more people are coming to realize that to lose weight it's best to change lifestyle, including healthier eating habits and more physical activity.

Static Stretching And Why You Should Stretch

Many or today's society have muscular imbalances due to repetitive daily movements leading to pain and injury. Repetitive movements such as sitting for long periods, standing, driving, or anything else that you do all day repetitively places undue stress on the body. Muscular imbalances result in poor joint movement, inappropriate muscle functioning and decreased neuromuscular control. Start with static stretching to improve these imbalances.

People of all ages and all fitness levels can benefit from static stretching. Stretching improves joint range of motion, improves the function of your muscles and improves neuromuscular control or efficiency. Stretching exercises don't require any special equipment so they can be performed anywhere, at your desk, at home or in the gym.

Flexibility and static stretching exercises can be performed during warm up and cool down. Stretching during warm up prepares your muscles prior to exercise and prevents injury. Stretching after a workout improves joint range of motion and helps your muscles recover after a workout which also prevents excessive muscle soreness.

And if you don't exercise and you lead a sedentary lifestyle it's even more crucial you perform some form of static stretching and flexibility exercises. Just remember to only stretch to the point of slight tension and hold for at least 30 seconds. Never bounce while stretching.

Static, Active, Dynamic, and SMR with a foam roll are a few different forms of flexibility training. The most common is static stretching. Static stretches require that you hold a stretch for a minimum of 20 to 30 seconds. It helps to improve flexibility by lengthening the muscles being stretched. Static stretches are best for correcting muscular imbalances and is the best place to start.

Another type of stretching, SMR or self myofacial release using a foam roll, is also a form of stretching to correct muscle imbalances and to relieve knots in a muscle. It improves the length of muscles by placing pressure on "knots" which are bundled muscle fibers. It returns the body to it's optimal level of functioning and it feels great. You can use this technique on most major muscles and combine it with static stretching.

Active stretching and dynamic stretching are another form of stretching. They should be performed only as a warm up prior to exercise and stretches are held for very short durations with several repetitions. Perform static stretching as part of your cool down.

Improving your flexibility will not only feel great but will reduce the risk of injury, counteract aging, improve posture, relieve pain, and improve muscle recovery after workouts. Static stretching is a great place to start.

You need to set realistic goals if you want to lose weight permanently. Most people do not define there weight loss goals, rather they focus on losing weight quickly. The quicker they can lose weight, the better. Unfortunately, it takes time to lose weight healthily.

You will regain the weight as it is close to impossible to stay on fad diets for the rest of you life.

Don't aim to have a body like Jessica Alba or Victoria Beckham; remember that they have doctors, chefs, trainers and the money to help them.

You will only get frustrated and be disappointed if you strive to be like them. Just aim your specific goals at becoming healthy. Lose enough weight so that you can weigh in at your ideal body weight! You won't need diet pills or starvation tactics to achieve that. All you need to do is to eat right and exercise regularly.

Don't worry about dieting so much and instead focus on eating more healthily. If you don't know where to start, begin by substituting water for soft drinks. You will be satisfying your thirst but will do so without the weight that goes with the soda. Some people think that soft drinks that come with the 'low-calorie' tag are okay. However, this is wrong! Low-calorie soft drinks are deprived of fructose. They make you want sugar.

You should also replace white flour with whole grain wheat. Whole grain wheat contains much less fat. Being rich in protein and fiber, it will help you with weight loss!

I also mentioned to exercise for permanent weight loss. Weight training is one of the best exercises for quick weight loss. Do not buy into the stereotype that weight training is only for men.

If you are worried about getting too bulky, know that bodybuilders aren't able to build muscles just by doing exercises. Protein shakes, supplements and steroids are also used. Besides, the presence of a hormone called testosterone is important if one wants to build huge muscles like bodybuilders.

1. If you don't feel your abs working, the exercise is probably not effective. You should be able to feel your abs pulling or pushing while performing the exercise.

2. Concentrate while doing the exercise. Make sure you are really using your abs. Don't cheat by using the momentum, or by pulling with your arms or legs.

3. Get off from the floor. By using an exercise ball when doing your ab workouts you will strengthen your core, and not just one specific muscle. Your body will use more muscles to help you keep your balance, and prevent you from falling on the floor.

4. Try these excellent ab workouts:

Toe Raises. Start with lying on the floor, hands by your sides. Point your toes towards the ceiling, lifting your legs straight up. Slowly return to start position. Repeat 15 lifts.

V-Sit. Start with lying flat on the floor, with your hands by your sides. Lift your legs and your upper body at the same time, making a V with your body. Only your bottom should be on the floor. Slowly go back to the starting position. Do 10 repetitions. Or at least as many as you can manage.

5. Your diet will have the biggest impact on what your body looks like. To get a body to show off on the beach, you need to spoil your body with nutritious food. Eat a lot of fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains and leans meats, and drink a lot of water. This will make a big difference.

6. Don't forget to be balanced in your workout. When you exercise your abdomen, don't forget about your back muscles. If you don't train all your muscles you will not get the result you want.

7. If you want a nice, toned six pack, or just a really flat stomach, you need to lower your body fat percentage. The best way to do this is to have a good aerobic program worked into your exercise routine.

4 Balance Exercises That Can Improve Your Balance At Any Age

Proper balance is required for all movements whether you play tennis or walk down stairs. The ability to balance is a dynamic process that requires proper posture and the ability to stabilize a joint during movement. Balance exercises should be performed in an unstable environment that can be safely controlled. Exercises can be performed by using tools such as a bosu ball, dyna disc or half foam rolls or simply performing certain exercises while balancing on one leg.

Balance exercises can be effective only when you use proper technique. Start slowly and progress gradually to avoid possible injury. Some common things to watch for are avoiding caved knees, avoiding flat feet, keeping your hips level and avoid elevating your shoulders throughout the full range. Squeeze your buttocks and roll your shoulders back and down and pinch your shoulder blades together.

Whether you're an athlete or not it's important to start with simple balance exercises and gradually progress to more challenging ones. When performing balance exercises there should be no movement in your ankles, knees, or hips. The following are some sample balance exercises from.

Single Leg Balance: Stand with your feet about shoulder width apart and place your hands on your hips. Draw your belly button. Lift one leg off the ground and right beside the balanced leg and squeeze the buttocks of the balanced leg. Keep your hips level and hold for 5 to 20 seconds. Repeat with other leg. If this is difficult, support yourself by gently holding on to a chair or wall.

Single Leg Balance Reach: Stand with your feet about shoulder width apart, place hands on hips. Draw your belly button in. Lift one leg off the ground and right beside the balanced leg, squeeze your buttocks of the balanced leg and maintain this throughout the exercise. keep your hips level and reach your leg to the front and hold for 2 seconds. Return leg back to start and reach to the side and hold for 2 seconds. Return leg back to start and reach leg behind your body and hold for 2 seconds. Repeat with other leg. If reaching to the front is difficult, master that before moving to the side or back.

Single Leg Hip Rotation: Stand with your feet about shoulder width apart and place hands on hips. Draw your belly button in. Lift one leg off the ground and right beside the balanced leg. Squeeze your buttocks of the balanced leg and maintain this throughout the exercise. keep hips level and rotate at the hips to the side opposite of the balanced leg and hold for 2 seconds. Return back to start and repeat with other leg.

You can use props such as a half foam roll, BOSU ball, and a dyna disc for the above exercises to make them more challenging. But do this gradually and only when you are able to safely control yourself. Proper progression and technique will make a balance training program more effective and prevent injury.

The majority of people think that taking a short walk three times a week is enough for them to quickly lose weight, unfortunately though this is completely un-true! In order for walking to be an effective weight loss technique, you would need to walk for a minimum of 45 minutes at least five to six times a week.

It's important to be consistent with your walking schedule and do it on a regular basis if you want to control your weight. Trying to walk around your neighborhood on a flat surface can be ineffective, too.

Walking on a treadmill can be an excellent way to give yourself a more thorough workout. By increasing the incline of the treadmill, you can simulate walking up hill which not only increases your heart rate, but also causes your muscles to work harder and therefore use up more fat.

If you engage in treadmill walking on a consistent basis, you'll not only be able to lose the pounds, but they will stay off for good. If a treadmill walking workout tends to bore you, here are some ideas to make it more interesting:

Walk the Pyramid: This game challenges you both physically and mentally for a total of 30 minutes. Whenever you're walking on your treadmill, increase the speed by .1 mph every 15 minutes. Do this for half of your workout and then decrease the speed .1 mph for the other 15 minutes.

1,2,3 Counting Steps: Let's face it, working out on a treadmill can be boring. Break the monotony by counting your steps. Take a minute and count your steps and then take a minute break. Continue doing this throughout the duration of your workout. It will keep your workout interesting and over time you'll see notice the number of steps you take increase, which will be a reward for you.

Step and Walk: Anyone who is used to stair stepper or knows what a great workout. It provides. You can make your treadmill walk less boring by alternating you're walking with other forms of exercise. All you have to do is walk for five or 10 minutes under treadmill, then get off the machine and use a stepper for the same amount of time. If you don't have a stepper, you can do something else like jumping jacks, lifting weights with dumbbells, etc.

Travel the World: Do you remember in the movie Forrest Gump, when Tom Hanks puts on a pair of tennis shoes and just walks for what seems like forever? Why not map out your favorite destination, and then see how long it takes you to walk there and your treadmill?

Don't be afraid to come up with your own games to make treadmill walking less boring. Not everyone is enthusiastic about exercise, but you can put a spin on things to make time go by faster.
